D&I Series, Session 2:  
Exploring Unconscious Bias & Adopting a Self 


In order to understand the intersection of Diversity & Inclusion with organizational culture, each of us needs to model self-awareness. Understanding and recognizing one's unconscious biases is critical to tackling the topic of Diversity & Inclusion in our organizations. Join us to explore unconscious bias, why it exists and ways to challenge it within yourself, so you can inspire others to do the same. What is a microaggression and how do unconscious bias and microaggressions work together? Are you ready to start planning for action in the area of Diversity & Inclusion? Start with awareness.

About the Presenter 

KIM ANDRADE, MS, SPHR

Kim has built expertise in culture and people over a 20 year career in human resources, first as a HR business partner, then as a specialist in Talent Development. The majority of her career has been in an international and culturally diverse environment, allowing Kim to coach, advise, design and execute on a variety of topics in a complex and constantly changing context. 

In her industry experience, Kim has crafted and delivered solutions across all functions of Talent Development, including: organizational design, talent identification, succession planning, early career pipeline programs, workplace culture, diversity & inclusion, learning & leadership development, mentoring and coaching. Kim’s respect for the importance of the business strategy, context, and culture ensure that the right solution is delivered and the desired impact is achieved.

Overall, Kim is a leader recognized for her passion and relentless commitment to developing talent, from senior leadership to early career professionals. Kim's niche is influencing cultural alignment through leadership and behavior. As a facilitator, Kim's focus is retained learning and sustained behavioral change through connecting with the audience and utilizing a hands-on "learn by doing" environment. Kim’s coaching experience has spanned all “ages and stages” – from senior executives to college and high school students, people across all business functions and from various countries.  Utilizing well-known tools like the Cultural Navigator and Cultural Orientation Inventory, Kim has facilitated sessions and coaching both individuals and team on cultural awareness and overcoming cultural differences.    

Based in California, but a world traveler, Kim has had the opportunity to work with people from nearly 50 countries. Kim’s experience demonstrates that collaborating across borders and languages adds to the richness of any experience, whether the work is done near home or 8,000 miles away. Kim has been recognized for her cultural agility and demonstrated ability to create a respectful and inclusive environment.

Kim has Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Sociology from the University California, Santa Barbara, as well as a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from San Diego State University. Certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources, Kim also has a Diversity & Inclusion certificate from Cornell University and has administered multiple assessments (DiSC, Business Motivators, ASSESS, Cultural Navigator) for the purposes of coaching and development.
