Showcase Your Effective & Flexible Workplace

Workplace flex is about rethinking how, when, and where people do their best work. At its core, workplace flexibility is about improving workplace results by giving people more control over their worktime and schedules.

 

Traditionally, flex meant variable hours. Today, when using the word flex, we are talking about an effective workplace where realistic work patterns meet the needs of both employers and employees. It has been dubbed workflex by When Work Works, a nationwide initiative that brings research on workplace effectiveness and flexibility into community and business practice. When Work Works is a project of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

 

Since its inception in 2003, When Work Works has partnered with an ever-expanding cohort of communities from around the country to:

  • share rigorous research and employer best practices on workplace effectiveness and flexibility.
  • inspire local employers to create more flexible and effective workplaces to benefit both business and employees.
  • recognize exemplary employers through the When Work Works Award and local community events.

For thousands of organizations, workflex contributes millions of dollars in bottom-line gains. But it is not always easy. It requires innovation, leadership, accountability for results, and an ongoing commitment to culture change.

 

When Work Works Award

The When Work Works Award is part of When Work Works (WWW), a research-based initiative which highlights how effective and flexible workplaces can yield positive business results and help employees succeed at work and at home.

 

Since 2005, When Work Works has been recognizing model U.S. employers of all types and sizes for their best practices. In addition to the recognition of earning an award by Families and Work Institute (FWI) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in national media, When Work Works’ Community Partners recognize winners in their communities by hosting local events.

 

By simply applying, applicants receive a free benchmarking report based on their application, comparing their responses to other Award winners and nationally representative samples of employers.
