Welcome to the Spring 2009 Edition of the CASC Newsletter. As members of the California human resources and management community, the California State Council of SHRM is here to provide you and your company resources relevant to the practice of Human Resources in California. 
 
In this issue we will discuss SHRM, the California State Council of SHRM, meet the local SHRM chapters, and explore the benefits of membership each and how they interact. 

 

Who is the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)?

Who sits on the California State Council of SHRM?
CASC is comprised of elected officers and the presidents of all 17 of California's SHRM chapters, which range in size from 40 members to 5,000 members, as well as core leadership directors such as the State Director for Diversity, State Director for College Relations, or State Director for Legislative Affairs. You must be elected to join the CASC. Volunteer opportunities are open to SHRM members who may or may not be associated with a local chapter. A local SHRM chapter is an organized group of HR professionals affiliated with SHRM in your  local community. All SHRM chapters have a volunteer board of directors and membership. See the list of the 17 chapters below. These chapters often host monthly meetings, mixers, and other programs where you can network with other HR professionals in your community. These events are also valuable learning events where you can attend workshops, seminars, and updates on the latest issues in HR.

Any HR professional, student, or individual practicing HR functions in the organization.
