Welcome to the Spring 2009 Edition of the CASC
Newsletter. As members of the California human resources and
management community, the California State Council of SHRM is here to
provide you and your company resources relevant to the practice of
Human Resources in California.
In this issue we will discuss SHRM, the California State Council of
SHRM, meet the local SHRM chapters, and explore the benefits of
membership each and how they interact.

Who is the Society for Human Resource Management
(SHRM)?

Founded in 1948, SHRM represents more than 250,000 individual members

Resource Management. The Council
offers its members the opportunity
to
network with peers, find a wealth of
information on chapter development
and
retention, participate in California and
National certification
programs, gain
volunteer leadership experience and
recognition.

Who sits on the California State Council of SHRM?
CASC is comprised of elected officers and the presidents of all 17 of
California's SHRM chapters, which range in size from 40 members to
5,000 members, as well as core leadership directors such as the State
Director for Diversity, State Director for College Relations, or
State Director for Legislative Affairs. You must be elected to join
the CASC. Volunteer opportunities are open to SHRM members who may or
may not be associated with a local chapter. For information on these
