A Note from our President

As we start 2017, not only has a new calendar year begun, but a new era has been ushered in as well, with a new administration in Washington, D.C., along with new legislators to represent us on the local, state and national levels. We, at the Santa Barbara Human Resources Association, know that it is even more vital for us to continue to be at the forefront of providing you, our members, with the most current information on upcoming changes to legislation, rules and government regulations that may affect you.

Additionally, the Santa Barbara Human Resources Association will continue to provide timely professional development, educational resources, workshops, events, seminars, e-blasts and updates that will enable our members to better navigate the complexities of California’s labor laws.  We sponsor a major employment law conference with Santa Barbara law firm  Mullen & Henzell, as well as other legal updates throughout the year. We are also tireless advocates on your behalf locally, as well as in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., so our legislators are kept aware of what pressing labor law issues we face here at home, and how those issues will affect local businesses, employees, and you, the human resources professional.

We are proud to be an affiliate of SHRM (Society for Human Resources Management), the preeminent national and international human resources association, as well as CalSHRM, the California arm of SHRM. Both of these groups continue to provide in-depth tools and knowledge to the human resources professional.  We are extremely proud to be the ONLY California Chapter in 2015 to receive SHRM’s PLATINUM Award, the Excel Program's premier accolade extended to highest performing chapters.

Human Resources has been recognized as an important profession, and to that end, we provide certification programs for both SHRM and HRCI, as we believe that these certifications are invaluable in enhancing our profession, as well as to equip HR professionals and be seen as strategic partners and leaders by their employers and the community.  Having a certification credential provides both the knowledge and confidence to act decisively and confidently in a multitude of complex situations. Information on becoming HR certified is on our website, and most of our events are eligible for recertification credit.

We all know that networking with our peers is invaluable, and making and keeping those contacts is vital to our ongoing success.  We encourage you to come to a monthly luncheon (the third Wednesday of the month) or event, and speak to a member about how their SBHRA membership has helped them in their career.

We have developed a fabulous schedule of events for you in 2017!  Please check our website regularly for updates. I look forward to seeing you at an SBHRA event.
